Luftwaffe pilot Walter Schuck flew the Me109 in the Arctic Sea fighter squadrons becoming the Russian air force’s feared enemy in the far north. Barely two months after being awarded the Knights Cross in April 1944 he shot down 12 aircraft in one day―a record never achieved by another Arctic Sea pilot.

His mastery continued when in March 1945 he joined Jagdgeschwader 7, newly equipped with Me262 jet fighters and shot down two Allied fighters on his first operation. Taking command of the third Staffel of JG 7 his success in the aerial theater was unsurpassed until meeting one of the bombers’ escort fighters in combat, his fuel system exploded and he had to bail out. Walter Schuck’s war was over, after 500 front line sorties and 206 confirmed kills.

Celebrated by his colleagues for his skill, courage, sheet guts and chivalry including the deep feelings for those he shot down, he earned the nickname ‘Eagle of the Tundra’ or ‘Northern Knight.’

Impressive memoir. A Must Have for anyone interested in WWII aerial warfare.

I can heartily recommend this book for anyone interested in the day to day life of a Luftwaffe Jagdflieger (fighter pilot) fighting in extremely difficult circumstances. Compared to other theaters on the Eastern Front, most of us in the West do not know as much about the efforts of the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht in the harsh conditions of the Arctic Circle. This book helps to fill in some gaps in our understanding of that theater of operations. In this book, Herr Schuck comes across as an honorable and decent man who served his Fatherland bravely and well. "Luftwaffe Eagle: From the Me109 to the Me262" should reside on the bookshelf of anyone interested in Luftwaffe operations over the Eastern Front.

I am cataloguing my library (Readerware 3) currently and came across this book. Without a doubt it is the best memoir of WW2 that I have read and I have read a lot of them. I only wish he had written a book of his adventures after the war. Don't miss this book.

The 4th Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers was raised to support the 4th Parachute Infantry Brigade and landed with them at Arnhem on 18th September 1944. Responsible for getting the brigade's heavy transport and guns across the railway embankment during their hasty retreat into the Oosterbeek Perimeter, the squadron found itself split in half and inserted into the line to fight as infantry. Each half stood their ground after repeated attacks, taking numerous casualties in the process. This is not only the story of how they held out, but how they managed to hit back at their attackers before they were eventually evacuated. This edition has 13 original maps and drawings and numerous never seen before pictures.

Excellent addition to the Battle of Arnhem library

John Sliz has done a great job with this booklet, part of his very interesting Market Garden Engineer Series. It contains everything a new 'Arnhem book' (there are hundreds of titles available...) should have: detail, many pics then and now, veterans stories, great detailed maps, all put together in a nicely written and very readable account. It is clearly written with love for the subject. A gem!

Great book, must read for Christa Wick fans

Excellent story. It was previous released in two parts, and I didn't get the second part. I'm so glad I can have them both together in one book.
Our heroine is a fiesty law student who is fighting a big company to protect the environment. She meets the hero when she sneaks into what she thinks is a regular party, but turns out to be something else. I really loved getting to know our heroine from the inside out and her character is very attractive and well developed.
Christa Wick writes sex/love scenes very well. This book has a bit of BDSM aspect, especially in the second part. In fact, the longest BDSM scene is really neat, written from the point of view of a blindfolded and restrained heroine who is experiencing it for the first time, and not knowing exactly what is happening to her. So many writers of this kind of scene get very mechanical with descriptions of devices and Christa Wick makes it very erotic with her descriptions of the feelings and sensations the experience causes.

I usually love Christa Wick Books. I enjoy a good BBW story but for some reason this book did not appeal to me. The book was ok and the characters were decent but I just wasn't able to get into them the way I normally do. Gina and Austin didn't captivate me and I struggled to understand how their relationship endured. All in all I think it was me. Maybe I just wasn't ready for this book. I'll give it three stars because while I enjoyed it I just didn't connect you it.

I have read every book that Christa Wick has written. I must say this is my favorite. Mrs. Wick gives us a strong intelligent women that would make any mother proud and all men as hard as a rock. The love/sex senses were perfect. I fell in love with both characters and so will you. Enjoy.

a very personal history

William A. Christian, Jr. explores religion on a personal basis prior to the expulsion. His thesis is that behavior makes religion, not the hierarchy of the church. For Christian, the key to understanding regional and personal religion is to examine daily behavior and actions. In addition to this, everyday life may affect how a person worships and the saints that they choose pray to. Moriscos must be analyzed individually, or at least locally, because they would all have different life experiences that would affect their worship.

Strong use of a good source

William Christian takes the long-overlooked results of a survey of local religous practice by Philip II, and draws an interesting picture of 16th c. popular religion in Castile.
The study of 'popular religion' is fairly new, and not usually well-done. Christian shies away from Natalie Davis-style revisionism, though, and sticks to the sources. It's fascinating work on a couple of levels. First of all, popular piety in Renaissance Spain was as diverse, earthy, and practical as one might expect, given the difficult conditions of folks living in recently-conquered Castile. Second of all, the tension between popular religion and the filtering down of Tridentine reforms is illustrated quite well by Christian later in the book.
This is a fairly well-focused monograph, but the general reader as well as the specialist will find it a good companion to his other treatment of Spanish popular religion, 'Apparitions'.
