Light-Hearted, Angst free read

I was looking for something to read that didn’t have so much angst and drama. Something that was a little lighthearted and sweet. (Don’t get me wrong half of what I read is filled with angst and drama) I came across Kinda Maybe. It is a standalone so there is no need read Book 1 to get the storyline. Kinda Maybe is what I think every girl/guy dreams about when they graduate college or are looking for something different to do with their lives. Kat Hillard decides to pick up her bags and move across country from California to New York looking for the next big thing in her life. She gets the luck of the draw with roommates who are genuine and they all become fast friends. (realistic? Maybe) One roommate in particular is the handsome but mysterious Evan Tremaine. In the beginning I was a little taken aback by the way the author portrayed Kat. She seemed like someone desperate for attention because Evan didn’t bother to check her out also she was always on about being lonely. BUT she did redeem itself as the story went on. Kat became more confident in herself living in New York City. On a whim she bumps into Reese Termaine, eligible bachelor, future politician. (Notice the last name?) So it’s a battle between two love interests? Not so much. I honestly didn’t get any emotional feed back from Evan until maybe the last chapter and that felt rushed. I wanted more Evan less Kat. Then there is Reese. I liked him I wanted him. I felt like he got the short end of the stick with this story.

Overall it’s an easy fast read with characters that you would want to have in your circle of friends (the side characters) It was what I set out to find-lighthearted and angst free. I will probably check out the first book-Awake

I loved Kat's sense of humor and her interaction with her friends. It was difficult to get a read on Evan although that was part of the authors plan. My only complaint is that the ending seemed rushed. All in all an excellent read.

Great Job!!

At first I was kind of skeptical about reading it, due to the fact that I no longer read books of this nature, I thought there would be a lot of curse words & vulgar sex acts, but to my surprise it wasn't, I was very pleased with the story line, found it hard to put down, wanting more, but was shocked with the ending!!! Definitely waiting on Part II!!!

This was my first read by Le'Vonne that was gifted to me and she didn't disappoint at all!!! These gurlfriends were something else. In the beginning I felt bad for Egypt because of everything that occurred but having friends like Peaches and Terri sure changed that. These gurls didn't mind how they got their money. I was a little shocked at the things they were involved in though. Peaches outspoken ass was a bit much at times and I liked Terri for not changing for anyone. Wait I swear I wasn't ready for the homo-thugs. Egypt thought for sure she found love in Pierre but most things aren't what they seem to be. I was dying laughing when dude dropped Peaches off all because she was mad about the steak. Wow Terri wanted to do his own things but those requests had me like whoa!!! Pierre truly was over the top with everything he was doing! I could've slapped Egypt's momma for that crazy stunt. I was curious as to just what was the pastor thinking. Lol! It seemed as if once Timothy came back into the picture things started going crazy. Oh dude was wrong for what happened between him and Terri but I'm glad it opened his eyes so he would realize just how much he could jeopardize his life. Man where Lorenzo came from? I was wondering how Egypt ruined his life. In the end they all eventually got themselves together, even though it took something serious to happen for them to realize it. Their bond was remarkable and I swear I loved these gurlfriends! Oh yeah, I'm glad Egypt finally found the one to love her like she should be loved.

One Thing It Is Not, .. Ordinary

I haven't been able to put it down. It's been a marathon. It's a beautiful narration. Like storytelling liberally spiced with (for me) unique information and connections. So many connections. I have been reading spiritual books for a long time, and at this point I often find myself reading books and nodding in agreement and familiarity. And if I'm not nodding, that usually isn't good. This has been different. I am humbled by this one. Not that I am unfamiliar with major concepts, .. but the connections and details. And the flow of interspersing and weaving in and out of David's personal life and experiences, and that of others, and of arcane knowledge and discoveries. The connections! Everywhere. This book is not about knowledge however, it is about experience. And it is about intentions and attention. And paying attention to the universe of life talking to you. I find that my perspective has shifted. Awakening is not so much about my thoughts and feelings. It is about my will. My intention and attention. To be awake is to pay attention. How could I not know this! ... I did. ... And I didn't.

To be awake is to play with an amazing interactive universe. Our will is meant to control our thoughts and feelings, with more than a little help from our friends. I thought I knew that. But I haven't been nodding lately. I am very impressed and processing. What a great job of storytelling, and very nicely edited. A big thumbs up.

9/2/13 - Based on a comment below I decided that maybe I should add a little detail, as I see it, about the content of this book. If there is one foundational concept underpinning this book throughout I would have to say that it is "The Hero's Journey". The title of the famous book by Joseph Campbell on mythology. David makes what I think is a strong and intriguing case that The Hero's Journey is the model of the soul's journey. Universally so. And he spends a good deal of time tying it into cycles. Grand cycles and cycles within cycles. And evidence of repeating cycles within recorded history that I have never heard of before, and I feel quite sure very few ever have. Also in the background from beginning to end is The Law of One series. It is used as a high source of wisdom teachings and David makes a strong case as to why. But perhaps the major overall concept of this book revolves all around the coming Golden Age, and making a strong case for it. There is so much more. It's hard to even begin to describe the contents of this book in a concise manner. In the end one will take out of it what one needs. And this will of course vary quite a bit.

A WINDOW ON THE COMING NEW 21st CENTURY WORLDVIEW

Last century's two outdated worldviews: "Religious & Spiritual" vs "Scientific-Materialism" are each seriously deficient in their ability to understand and define the function of "consciousness" in cosmology. Many recent scientific discoveries and new thinkers have begun to articulate a modern definition of consciousness and, ultimately, a new concept to replace the primitive, obsolete definition of "god" (universal intelligence). Having researched this new concept for 40+ years myself and written my own book "Intelligent Intervention" on the same subject, I can personally endorse the ideas and thinking in this book as "cutting edge." It is beautifully and elegantly written. If you are one of those open-minded individuals who endeavor to understand life's mysteries and decide the "truth" on your own ... this book is a MUST READ and belongs in your library.

Must read metaphysical masterpiece that integrates science & spirituality

This true account of the scandal that enveloped the discovery in 1898 of an inscribed casket said to contain the ashes of the Buddha, is set against the background of the high noon of the British Raj. In January 1898 a British landowner, William Claxton Peppé, excavated a large Buddhist brick stupa on his estate close to India’s border with Nepal. At a depth of 24 feet he uncovered a huge stone coffer. What made this discovery so important was an inscription found on the top of one of the reliquary caskets - declaring it to contain ashes of the Buddha. This news aroused world-wide interest since no other so well authenticated relics of the Buddha had ever been found. But almost immediately it became known that a German archaeologist, Dr Anton Führer, working nearby at the same time had not only made bogus claims and faked his results but had also been associated with the dig. Führer was quickly unmasked by a British magistrate who himself had a stake in the excavation.

A Highly Detailed and Accurate Review of Facts.

A controversy is skillfully dissected by Charles Allen in this treatise. By taking the reader to current politics in the areas Buddha used to wander, Mr. Allen perfectly sets the stage in his Preface to explain politics of that area some 2,600 years ago. Then he takes us to the Prologue to explain politics of Buddha's time. I highly recommend reading the preface so that a reader unfamiliar with Buddhist history can correlate today to Buddha's time. Then he takes the reader to a highly detailed and factually accurate account of the controversy. I am amazed by the effort Mr. Allen took in providing an account of the controversy in this manner from the days of British India to the era of Internet. However, I am slightly, very slightly, disappointed that the book does not include clear pictures of the vase inscription captured through a modern day high-resolution camera. Nevertheless, this book kept me riveted all the way through.

This is a scholarly book. It's focus is more on the nature of relationships among the early pioneers of modernizing archaeology in a country where huge potential for archaeological discovery needed organization than about Dr. Fuhrer or Gautama Siddhartha (Sakyamnuni buddha). As a son of the British Raj, I found lots of personal details that enthralled me. However, anyone may read this book as a fascinating and empathic study of human nature and our attempts to relearn the values that, still today, we must live by -- values already known and written about before the time of Jesus.

interesting look at a controversial archaeological dig

This book is about an archeological dig in the late 1800s at a site where the remains of the Buddha might have been buried. Did the German in charge really find what he said he found? Was he in the wrong place? Did someone else find something more important? Was there deception and fakery involved? Whom can we really trust if we're told of bone fragments? It's interesting that we still might never get to know the truth about who found what because of politics, which make digging more and more difficult in Northern India near Nepal.

The author had me hooked on p. 35, when he explained that in those ancient times, the locals would not have used words like "miles" or "meters" for their distances. They used "khos"--the furthest distance a cow's mooing will be heard. Someone who gives us detail like this knows how to engage his reader. This book has lots of good pictures and no footnotes. That helps a non-historian like me. The generous use of pictures lets us to see what the archeologists were seeing as they explored.

The book is well-edited. The only mistake I found was "secene" for "scene" on p. 265.

Some readers might object to so much ancient history thrown in to give us the background, but since we're talking about events from 2500 years ago, a lot of historical background is necessary. True historians might demand some footnotes.
