One of the two best texts on spectral theory

After seven years of study in the area, I have concluded that Jenkins and Watts text , together with Priestley's book, is the best available reference on spectral theory and its applications. J&W is clear in its explanations and provides a thorough background in the subject. In both the discrete and continuous domain, it covers time series models, their associated spectral theory and the estimation of spectra. It is not an introductory text and would be best suited for post-graduate study. I have no hesitation in recommending both J&W and P as outstanding guides to frequency-based time series analysis. As time series researchers we are fortunate to have such outstanding books available for studying such a difficult area of statistics.

The best resource for spectral analysis, 44 years and counting

Even though this book was published in 1968, it is still the authority on spectral analysis.

Written primarily as a post-grad text, this is the most complete resource I have found that deals with how to actually connect theory and practice. Though it is a difficult read, it is complete, well organized, builds from first principles, and is consistent in notation. The text is fairly accessible if you have a strong background in elementary statistics and Fourier theory. (If not, these items are reviewed in chapters 2-4)

To illustrate the practicality of spectral analysis in engineering problems, Jenkins writes, "...Weiner theory of prediction and control shows that an optimum filter or control system can be designed if various spectra associated with the signal and the noise in the system are known. However, little attention is paid in books on control theory to the very important practical question of how to estimate these spectra from finite lengths of record. It is with such problems that we shall be concerned in this book."

Wish I'd bought it sooner

Spectral Analysis and Its Applications is an excellent source for professionals with intermediate time-series statistics skills. It clearly outlines and demonstrates the methods necessary to carry out sound spectral analysis of time-series data and how to use this data for modelling purposes. It is also a great aid and reference for anyone who needs the means to triumph over inexperience and under-education in time-series debates. Four years out of graduate school, I need this book again; I wish I'd bought it sooner.

HANDSTAND

I have another handstand book by this author and i loved it. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone that doesn't have a solid two hand handstand. Two minute freestanding handstand holds should suffice for anyone wanting to advance in the one hand handstand department.

Most Used Reference Book in my Office

I just came here looking for an update to my 1998 edition, and I can't see a pub. date for what's for sale. Over the last five years, I've seen many two-words turn into one word, and would love an update. This book is fast and easy to use. I have six copies--one for everyone in the office. What about jughandle or jug handle(the traffic engineering term)? It's not listed!

This book is an invaluable resource. I have two copies!

I am a freelance (no hyphen, per the book!) proofreader and copyeditor, and I have an extensive reference library. I keep TWO copies of this book around so I don't have to go far to grab it. It's amazing how many times I look something up in this book, and the answer is almost always there. I recommend this book to most of my clients, as well, as it helps minimize how many corrections I need to make on their materials. It's compact and helpful. Keep one nearby. (I also do customized travel and restaurant research, and when I'm writing reports for my clients about the best places for them to travel and where to stay and eat, I keep encountering words that I want to double check.)It is definitely NOT just for someone responsible for proofreading. While the trend is away from hyphenation and toward "solid" words, this book helps clarify what the current approved format is.

My Review:
Take Me Home Tonight was decent for the fact that we aren't getting the totally broken hero searching for or not searching as it were - a female to give him purpose in his life to redeem him of what he holds onto so much in every fiber of his being.

I wish there had been less wish wash of progress since it felt like every time Cal took a step forward he would take ten back and that got annoying after awhile but it was nice seeing him sort of come out of his shell. All in all I thought Take Me Home Tonight was a decent read.

hit and miss

I've never read this author, she was new to me. I liked her writing style and the storyline. for me, though, it was hit and miss with the delivery.

first let me start with my biggest issue, Shay. don't throw an ex at me and not resolve it. I thought the issue was handled by Calix in the beginning but she just kept popping up. then the beach, the hospital, the backyard. but no matter how much having her around hurt Mimi, it wasn't addressed or resolved with anything than an I'm sorry. that was a pretty big hit between the hospital and backyard..and I'm sorry, I'm sorry, wasn't enough for me. Mimi spoke her mind and was vocal about everything and I really needed this handled.

second, his mom. having her come back, out of her shell, literally brought tears to my eyes. Erica did it perfectly. it wasnt immediate, it was gradual, it was realistic.

Calix. I'm sorry but saying he screwed up is putting it mildly. and it wasn't just once. it was continuous hot and cold, mess up after mess up.. this was the hit and miss part for me. If you're going to give me a man who messes up as bad as he did, I need more than coffee, texts and showing up. I just needed more from him as a way to show he was sorry. his words didn't do it for me, and his actions weren't enough. now. their interactions together were hot and I love what Mimi did for him and his family.. and I will admit when we discussed Hopper, my eyes may have been leaking a little. but it still didn't cover his dick moves.

so while it may have been hit or miss, I still liked it. was glad to be introduced to a new author. a 3.5 star for me

Freaking Loved It

Erika Kelly has now won a place as one of my top authors. This book was extraordinary and I am confident it will be a top seller. You can see some Erika's personality in her work and will leave you hungry for more.

Mimi Romano is working hard to prove to her skills to her father. She has always dreamed of working for him and be part of his team. After winning a chance to be a participant in a big competition cooking show she wants nothing more than to win.

Calix Bourbon is a season Keyboard player to a big upcoming band. Tragedy has broken his family and guilt has kept his life on hold. Now he has to find way to survive this girl that has gotten under his skin and made him want more from life.

Agreeing to help Mimi by giving her cooking lessons Calix hopes it will bring back his mom who has been lost in her pain. Mimi is the only person who brings out the real Calix she loves to see him free and she can't help challenging him or putting her foot in her mouth. No matter how hard he fights the pull she keeps digging harder into his heart.

5 stars very different than what I'm used to reading its funny, sexy, and very well written. Loved the references to the tv shows since we are familiar with it.
