About the Author
Peter Dahlgren is Professor of Media and Communication Studies at Lund University, Sweden. He has also taught at Stockholm University, as well as Queens College and Fordham University in New York City, and has been a visiting scholar at several other universities. He is the author of many articles and author or editor of several books, including Television and the Public Sphere (1995) and Young Citizens and New Media: Learning for Democratic Participation (2007).

Three half-sisters come together at their late father's ranch in Montana. The terms of his will dictate that all three women must live together at the ranch for one year. If not, his enormous estate will be given to charity. Willa has lived all her life on the ranch and feels anger and resentment at her father's decision. Tess is a glamorous Hollywood screenwriter. She merely wants the cash and a quick escape from the desolate countryside. Lily, trying to hide from an abusive ex-husband, is only too happy to have the opportunity to stay in one place. Their evolving relationships with each other make up the heart of the story. It wouldn't be a Roberts novel if during their year of forced togetherness each sister didn't become romantically involved with tall, handsome cowboys. All six of the major characters are wonderfully written, with just the right touch of genuineness, warmth, and distinctiveness to make readers emotionally invest in their stories. Highly recommended for all libraries.

Romance and mystery -- a great combo

I just read "Montana Sky" last week on vacation - and a good thing, too! I never would have been able to get up for work since I couldn't put the book down until 2 every morning! This was the first Nora Roberts suspense novel in which I have not been able to guess who the killer was until he was actually revealed. I enjoyed it so much I started reading it again to my husband - who's really a Stephen King fan, not into "romance novels" - on the drive home. He liked it so much he has to finish the half we didn't get to on his own! The developing relationship between the three sisters, while you KNEW they would bond, was still a lot of fun to see happening. Willa and Tess were both great characters, and while I found Lily a little too meek for my liking, the strength that she developed redeemed her at the end. Also, Ben was the classic NR hero - tough, gentle, romantic, a bully - you know, the kind you can't help falling in love with. Just be warned - if you're looking for a classic "romance novel", you may have the same complaints some others have about the violence in this book. It does get a little graphic.

Montana Sky

This story centers around three sisters. Willa has lived on Mercy Ranch her entire life. Even though she grew up with her father, he never approved of her or had a nice thing to say to her. Tess is all Hollywood. She is a writer, and thrives in that environment. Then there is Lily, who is shy, and afraid of her own shadow. She has been running from her abusive ex for a long time, and longs to find somewhere she belongs. When Jack dies, all three are brought to Montana. They find out that they must live together or lose out on their inheritance. If they can survive all the twists and turns, they may have found the family each one needs.

It is a great book, and very intense read. The characters are written very well, and the secondary characters are important to the story also. A little more violence than I am comfortable with, but I think it was necessary to the story.

Why so many detailed descriptions of animal torture?

I usually love Nora Roberts' books, particularly those set in Ireland, but was so disturbed by this one that I had to stop reading it. There are horrifying descriptions of the torture and killing of an old barn cat, a beloved pet, and several descriptions of sadistic torture of cattle, as well detailed descriptions of castrating and dehorning young male cattle. I was so upset by this unnecessary horror that I threw out the book. I am still haunted by these descriptions and the suffering she describes of the poor animals. I hope Nora Roberts will stick to her normal writing and lay off this sort of work in the future. Otherwise, will have to stop reading and recommending her work - these detailed descriptions of animal suffering are sick.

Terrific!

I've read a few introductions to the Logic and Hartnack's is by far the clearest without sacrificing too much depth. While I doubt this book will be of much aid to a person who knows little philosophy, if you are familiar with Hegel and German philosophy, this is a wonderful introduction and guide to a very difficult text. An achievement!

I just wanted to recommend this book to anyone embarking on taking on Hegel's Logic. Beware, though, the book, despite being an introduction, is challenging and demands slow, concentrated reading (this is also due in part to its condensed nature; a mere 124 pages covering each and every section of the Logic). This is no fault of Hartnack; The Science of Logic demands nothing less. Hartnack, in fact, provides the gist of Hegel's arguments in an exceptionally clear form. His "analytic" orientation doesn't matter much to me, nor should it pose a problem for you; if the arguments provided are sound, they're sound. The book holds rewards for the engaged reader on almost every page. Another observation I'd like to make is that the book is designed, in my judgment, for a reader already familiar with some basic concepts in philosophy (think upper-undergraduate level), though I think that a reader below that level may also find it useful with enough effort. In sum, I'd use this book as a steroid supplement before entering the ring and facing the beast itself.

Clearest introduction to the Logic available

This is a remarkable piece of philosophical exegesis. In a mere 124 pages, Hartnack explicates the arguments of the Science of Logic. What is particularly interesting is that the Danish author is apparently trained in analytic philosophy, which is notoriously hostile to Hegel and all things Continental. Hartnack makes many references to philosophers such as Strawson, Wittgenstein, Russell, Carnap, and Frege. This is not a mere matter of saying "here's the Analytic Hegel." These references are used conservatively, and only to bring clarity to Hegel's own text. This is not a book that contains the next great "reading" of Hegel a la Kojeve or Hyppolite. But it is perhaps the book that one should seek out if he or she wishes to achieve a nuts and bolts understanding of what is perhaps the most difficult work in the history of philosophy.

About the Author

Stan Gibilisco, an electronics engineer and mathematician, has authored or co-authored dozens of books, including Ham and Shortwave Radio for the Electronics Hobbyist, Electronics Workshop Companion for Hobbyists, and Making Everyday Electronics Work.

Simon Monk has a degree in cybernetics and computer science and a Ph.D. in software engineering. He is the author of numerous books, including Programming Arduino: Getting Started with Sketches, 30 Arduino Projects for the Evil Genius; Hacking Electronics; and Fritzing for Inventors. Simon also runs the website monkmakes.com, which features his own products.

I've read lots of books on electricity and electronics and this 745-page volume is by far the best. It starts with the basics, assuming no prior knowledge on the part of the reader, and gets into some really advanced topics including characteristic impedance, solid-state electronics, classes of amplifiers and everything in between. There is an excellent section on lasers, describing in detail the many types. Stan Gibilisco and Simon Monk, joint authors, have written many, many books on electronics, computer technology, physics and many other topics. They have always been inspirations for me and here they have gotten together and produced a magnificent work. I highly recommend it for readers at all levels.

It just keeps getting better!

A great updated edition for those who might be looking for a refresher course, or just simply a beginner/maker in the field of electricity and electronics. At first glance, these subjects may be a bit intimidating for the first time, but the text is written well enough for even the beginner to understand. I had first seen the 5th edition of this book at my local bookstore. At first, I thought that possibly it had too many chapters/subsections to be that thorough/in-depth. I quickly learned that this book didn't lack anything at all. I was amazed at how well everything was laid out. The material was presented in a way that was very easy to learn, while being thorough and not confusing at the same time. After completely enjoying the 5th edition, I was anxious for the arrival of this new and updated 6th edition. If you're looking for a well rounded text, than this new edition may be right for you. The biggest difference between editions is that the 6th edition now includes Audrino hardware and programming, an improved Microcontrollers section, and other updated information of other sections. Also, if you have already mastered the quizzes and practice tests in the 5th edition, there are updated quizzes and practice test in this edition as well. I highly recommend "Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics, 6th edition, instead of purchasing any expensive textbook. After All, if you're out to achieve a good understanding of electricity and electronics, or studying for an entrance exam for a technical job position, this book will help you do that. It's a great book for teaching you the subjects of electricity and electronics, and then later tests your knowledge of it. I highly recommend this updated edition of "Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics, 6th edition," as well as any other Stan Gibilisco and/or Simon Monk books.

Great book, slow read

Love the call to have a heart-to-heart with Father God. Found it useful to lay the book aside and meditate on the ideas it promotes to get a fuller impact. Can be read like a devotional for the more serious mystics.

Can't just own one; all three in one a super deal!

I must admit, the first time I read THE SACRED ROMANCE was shortly after it's release, and although I liked the topic and initially what was said, I had trouble engrossing myself in it. Due to my struggle with that selection I figured I wouldn't like the author's other works. When I was given a copy of Wild at heart, I read it thinking how great it would be for men of any age and passed it on to my 80+ grandfather and my husband. The next book of John Eldredges' I received from my mom hoping to help me with raising my son, before I even finished it, I passed it on to yet another who was soul searching.
All of these literary pieces had very specific audiences. It wasn't until my perspective and understanding of life and truely living to the full was forever changed with the book WAKING THE DEAD, that I found what my heart was longing for! I especially found the prayer suggested in the book to bring me immediate understanding of the war I was in, at that moment, and for what I was being awoken.
I have lost track at around 10 copies purchased and passed on, most of which had simular impact on those I gave them to and were passed on from them as well. Due to reading an exerpt in the back portion of the book, I wanted to read DESIRE, so purchased this 3 book set for the cost and opportunity to pass on more! I found DESIRE to be the perfect resolution to WAKING THE DEAD, and actually found that it had a redemptive quality that lead me to not only reconsider THE SACRED ROMANCE, but to see it much more for the restorative potential, and deep impact it offers those who would understand the love of God. This collection is easily one of my favorites, a definate for any library. Other authors I reccomend are Max Lucado,Beth Moore, and Philip Yancy for literary ease of read and depth of topic.

Great book. With all 3 combined -it puts more light on the importance of your relationship with Jesus and why this is so key to growing in faith. For me. It put the value of loving God and the growing in wisdom in harmony with the growing of my personal growth of my soul. It gave me more guidance and understanding and acceptance of the great mystical parts of life and why I love the romance of the Bible story. I know I am only in a chapter of my life in a book I had responsibility in writing but yet no idea of the ending. But I can trust it would be a good book to read even though I don't know how it ends. It's in the making of life with Jesus that gives the book of my life meaning. Both the good and bad. I keep reading and with each pain I mature and become more whole with God.
thank you for writing to my heart and helping me nourish my heart to be so open to absorb all that is in my life on earth and what will be my life in eternity with God. I can't write as well as you John or God but I am trying. to say how much closer I've come to knowing me and Jesus through your books. Thank you again...Respectfully. Helene. Hermann
