4.5 sexy roadie stars!

In this weeks episode we are back focusing on the roadies, in particular Sawyer's cousing Kelly!

This is by far the sweetest novella in the series. Words cannot explain how much I wanted Kelly to get his man, Jasper.

After months of living it up, taking the perks of working with a rock band, his time with them is coming to an end, and he finally makes that hail Mary pass on the one person he has wanted all along.

Jasper is another roadie who has also been intrigued by the young Aussie, but had not acted due to their age difference.

I LOVED these two! I think these are my favourite pair of the whole series. I loved how they were with each other, heck I just loved every single thing about them both.

Of all the novellas, I think these are the two that I most wanted to have a full blown relationship - I could handle a whole book about them Ms Husk!

This is a story of Kelly exploring his sexuality, and going all out for what he wants.

Lovers of M/M stories will adore this installment. The only thing wrong with it for me, was that it was too short! I wanted more!

This is the first I have read by Shona Husk, but I will be checking more out.

When I started reading this book I didn’t know if I was going to like it, but I did. The subject matter is not for everyone, but Shona Husk wrote a very tasteful, caring story about Kelly and his desire to explore his feelings. This is the fifth book of what happens on the USA tour of The Screaming Tuesdays.

Kelly has been working with the band during the USA tour as part of the stage crew. Now that the tour is coming to an end it is almost time to return to Australia and college. Kelly has this last opportunity to act on the attraction to Jasper, his boss on the crew.
Jasper doesn’t get involved with people that he works with. He hasn’t been with anyone since his breakup with his long time partner, who didn’t want to commit. When Kelly comes onto him he is hesitant, he has only seen Kelly with girls and not only is he part of the crew, he is the drummer’s cousin. This goes against so many of Jasper’s rules, but sometimes you have to take a risk.

Kelly the roadie

Kelly is the fifth instalment in the Secret Confessions: Backstage series. Kelly is cousin to Sawyer, drummer for The Screaming Tuesdays, and is working with the band during his gap year. Good looks and sex appeal are a familial trait for both young men. Kelly draws looks from female and male fans of the group just like Sawyer and Kelly takes advantage of the groupies and their desires.

Jasper is the sound engineer for The Screaming Tuesdays and has been with them for years. He makes no secret that he is gay and has recently left a long term relationship with a cheating lover who wouldn’t leave his wife and family. The tour gave Jasper a reason to end it and move on. He’s noticed Kelly many times, but he ‘doesn’t fish where I work.’

Kelly offers a game of pool then comes on to Jasper as the older man is solo celebrating his birthday. Jasper turns Kelly away, but tells him ‘I top’ before he walks away. Kelly isn’t dissuaded and Jasper tells him to rent a room at a different hotel if he is serious.

Great Book on Distributed Systems

This book is a little more expensive than most of the flashy Web Services books these days but it is well worth the money. Set in small font and not wasting pages on chapters like "History of XML and SOAP" this book is dense in content on the architecture of distributed systems, including Web Services. We get to learn about the issues of distributed transactions and the differences between conversations, coordination and orchestration. The text is precise but nevertheless easy to follow. One of the best books I have seen on Web Services architecture.

Clear explanations, good fundamentals

I am using this book for a graduate level class about Web Services. I like the books approach on giving you enough background about middle-ware evolution that makes it easier to understand what Web Services are trying to accomplish. Given that the actual technology (implementation details) change so much in this area the books approach makes a lot of sense. I also found explanations to be concise and clear.

Advice: if you are looking for a hands-on how-to book about XML this is not the book to pick up. Otherwise, if you are looking for a good fundamentals book that will help you paint a big picture of Web Services this book is great!

Poor Quality Kindle Edition

The quality of the Kindle version of this book is very poor. It looks as if one is reading a poor quality scan rather than rendered text. The type face is very light and jagged. Worse still, are the whitespace breaks between letters within words. It's like reading code rather than prose. Unfortunately, I didn't start reading the book until well after the seven day return policy and now I'm stuck with it but, don't you get stuck with it. If you want this book, get the hard copy and avoid the Kindle version at all cost.

About the Author
Og Mandino is the most widely read inspirational and self help author in the world. Former president of Success Unlimited magazine, Mandino was the first recipient of the Napoleon Hill Gold Medal for literary achievement. Exceptional. It should be required reading in middle school

This book was recommended to me by a friend. I picked it up, read it and shared it with another friend. I immediately went to the bookstore to purchase several other books written by Mandino. Easy, concise and motivational. Those are the three words I used to describe the book when I loaned it out. This was 3 weeks ago. Since that time several people have purchased some of his books via Amazon (unfortunately for me I discovered Amazon.com after I made my purchases!!) as well as at different bookstores. I will recommend this book to all of the young people I know. As a matter of a fact I may purchase duplicate copies and distribute them myself. I believe that this author can make tremendous differences in the lives of all people, particularily those young people that are confused, lost and feeling unimportant!! Thanks to Mandino for great literature!!

Interesting, but not groundbreaking

I'm not an expert on inspirational books. I read this because I love reading and I picked it up from my wife's grandmother's book collection when she passed away. Anyway, on to the review...
The story in the book is about a man named Zaccheus but is told from the perspective of his friend and confidant Joseph. Zaccheus is disfigured/crippled in the sense that he is extremely short because of his misshapen legs. He is also an orphan. But despite his trials in life he becomes the richest man in all of Jericho and possibly all of Israel. Joseph is kind of like his chief counselor.
The story is really a facade for the rules of success that Og Mandino wants to teach you. Near the end of the story - it took me about 30 minutes to read the entire book - the 10 rules to success (only 9 are listed initially but the 10th appears soon thereafter) are presented as entire chapters. The rules aren't really all that much to shout about, but I guess it could help some people so, here they are (simplified for you by me):
1. Work hard.
2. Be patient.
3. Set goals.
4. Plan on hard times.
5. Don't let the hard times get you down.
6. Dreams are worthless unless realized.
7. Don't ruminate about the past.
8. Simplify your life (not really sure what he means by this one).
9. Live like today is your last day on earth.
10. Be yourself.
Seems like common sense to me, but that's just me. Suggestions... If you like stories, look for a good novel and not something by Og Mandino. If you want self help or inspirational, I guess the format makes it more enjoyable than something by Stephen Covey but I would still recommend Dale Carnegie's books for usefulness and entertainment value.

Not his best

Even though this book is great by anyone's standards, it is not Og Mandino's best. It is very similar to "The Greatest Salesman in the World" (also by Mandino) but it somehow does not live up to the eternal masterpiece. The story itself is as striking as "Salesman" but the 10 principles are rather lethargically added to the end and do not carry the power of the ones in "Salesman". If you already own "Salesman" this is a worthwhile investment for sure, if not get "The Greatest Salesman in the World" instead. Whichever one you choose it will change your life that I can guarantee.
Ps. Anyone else notice Anthony Robins copies Mandino's principles exactly and makes it more detailed?

About the Author

Robin Berman, MD, is a psychiatrist and an associate professor at UCLA. She is a certified Reflective Parenting group leader and a Simplicity Parenting group leader. Dr. Berman is a founding board member of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and children.

Game Changer!

This is the first parenting book that I actually read twice. Not only did I use Robin Berman's advice but it worked like a charm! I LOVE the shrink notes at the end of each chapter and I want to tear them out and keep them in my bag so I always have them on me. This book is about effective proactive parenting and made me realize that my no was meaning maybe. I highly recommend Permission to Parent to anyone who wants to up their parenting game. SYS

Disappointed

The title of this book was a little deceiving. The author pointed out things parents may feel insecure about when disciplining, motivating and nurturing their children. What I found lacking was advice on "how-to" or "what to do instead" when conflicts arose between parent and child. I wish there were more real life examples like the story of brothers fighting over Legos. The author wrote what the mom did that wasn't working and what she later did that made the difference. More of that from Permission to Parent would have made this book more meaningful to me.

A Gift to All Parents

Dr. Robin Berman has given us all such a gift with her book, "Permission to Parent." It is rare to find a quality parenting book that is not only entertaining and easy-to-read, but also chockful of clinical wisdom and backed up by hard science. She gives parents the support they need to set limits and say "no," while still maintaining a loving bond with their children. She so eloquently reminds us that by trying to make our kids happy all the time, we are in fact doing them a disservice and actually setting them up for unhappiness later on in life. Dr. Berman presents real-life examples of the parenting challenges we face daily and offers practical tips and tools for coping with them- ranging from how to be more self aware and attuned to your child to how to manage the role of technology and media in this day and age. I recommend this book both personally and professionally to all parents at all stages of their parenting.

Knowledge you can use to succeed

First I would like to inform anyone reading this review that I am not a person who works directly with the music industry yet I am a fan of the music world. I purchased this book because of who wrote it. The author has an extensive background with the urban music industry. I read this book within 72 hours or less. I found it had a plethora of information. Be advised, the book does not give an A through Z plan to walk into the doors of any music label company and negotiate the perfect deal. What the book speaks about are the primary issues of the music industry and how an artist looking to enter the industry can develop knowledge and create a career that will be a source of income and not a career built on false hopes and promises. It was an easy read and I would recommend the book to anyone looking for information and understanding of the music industry. If you are looking for a quick fix to launch a record deal then stop reading this review. The truth is there are no quick solutions.

Read this book if you're interested in how the music industry works! She herself said that she priced it as low as possible in order to get it to as many people as possible; and it's available on Kindle! It's full of real information from her firsthand experience, and her experience literally is second to none! Just Google her, and after you do, get this book!
