Jeff Schewe is a professional advertising photographer and digital imaging pioneer who has advised on and contributed to the development of Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop to the extent that his name has appeared in the software's acknowledgements. Countless Gems

Primary objectives of a photographer's work flow in digital imaging are to optimize editing flexibility, do so non-destructively and maximize image quality. There are technical reasons, well explained in this book, why it is best to accomplish as much image adjustment as possible at the raw processing stage in order to achieve these objectives. Therefore it has been a long-standing technical objective at Adobe to gradually build and expand the versatility and capability of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) to give photographers more and better tools for maximizing image adjustment potential at the raw processing stage. As a result, the application has matured a lot over the years and the authors of this book have been very closely associated with this evolution (people and processes) from the beginning. It is no surprise, therefore, that Jeff Schewe has written what I would call the "definitive guide" to ACR 6, and indeed to a number of processes and applications closely enmeshed with it.

The book is divided into several logical stages of exposition, which altogether end-up giving the reader a very deep and comprehensive knowledge of what the program does, how to operate every detail of it, and strategies for using the program to successfully address a variety of common and not-so-common image adjustment challenges we deal with when crafting fine photographs, be it for the web or for print. The final chapters cover associated aspects of the imaging process - for example Chapter 6 on Adobe Bridge being a mini-book in its own right which provides the most comprehensive exposition of this application I've ever seen. Even as a very experienced user of ACR, I couldn't help but be amazed at what ACR can achieve in the hands of competent users, as shown on page 39, where a seemingly hopeless image many would most likely trash, comes out actually looking quite fine. Apart from these acrobatic rescue missions, what's truly determinative is how informed use of ACR can make acceptable photos into excellent photos. People who buy and read this book will vastly shorten the learning curve to become competent users and to improve their photos in ways they may not have thought possible.

Typically, when a new version of this or the other imaging applications in the Adobe suite get published, they host not only a short-list of new features which grab the marketing headlines, but also a slew of improvements under the hood and very helpful tweaks to existing features which add-up to a package of enhancements justifying the upgrade. An important function of books such as this is to cover all of these features in some depth, and Jeff Schewe has done so remarkably well in this volume.

The first two chapters are an absolutely essential discussion of the structure of the raw digital image, why to shoot in raw format and why to maximize image editing in ACR before doing anything in Photoshop. Both the qualities and limitations of working in raw are very well addressed here.

Chapter 3 provides an overview of how ACR integrates with other related Adobe applications (Bridge, Photoshop, the DNG converter), dealing with the advantages of hosting ACR in Bridge, aspects of metadata, the practicality of parametric editing, the DNG advantage, how your computer's operating system affects whether to manage ACR from Bridge or from Photoshop, and other such considerations users should know about.

Chapter 4 includes over 100 pages of material explaining the purpose and operation of every tool, option and control in the application. Space constraints prevent me from going into a detailed description of everything you'll find here, so I'll just mention several topics which I think most readers would really appreciate.

Sharpening is a very critical process to do correctly for making a good photograph: images need to be "right-sharpened" relative to their content, and the use of sharpening controls to achieve this is something which challenges all beginners and even some intermediate users. Pages 85 to 89 in this chapter, complemented by a more extensive discussion in the next chapter (pages 236 to 246) tells us everything we need to know about how to sharpen a digital image correctly in ACR - after reading this, the only requisite is practice.

Noise reduction is one of the functions which the ACR team has vastly improved in ACR 6 relative what existed in previous versions. Along with that improvement comes new controls and practices and the ways to make the best use of them. That too is well explained here.

"Black and white" remains very popular with many photographers for its sheer graphic qualities. The exposition of how to convert color images to outstanding "black and white" gets readers up-to-speed on ACR's extensive capabilites in this area, including imaginative effects such as split-toning and mixed color/grayscale interpretations, without the need for other programs. While I would have liked to see a bit more expansive discussion of these grayscale tools, what's here is good enough to launch users into a well-guided path of personal exploration with their own images.

Pages 99 to112 (and later pages 176-191) contain a very important discussion on how to set-up and implement lens correction algorithms in ACR. All camera lenses produce images with minor or not-so-minor lens-related imperfections which can be corrected in post-capture processing. This latest version of ACR includes much expanded capability to do this, and accordingly Jeff has allocated a lot of space to providing a clear, detailed explanation of what these features do and how to use them, in order to maximize the efficiency of one's image processing.

Pages 126-129 and later 166-169 provide really fundamental information users need to know about how to make the right choices (for their purposes) of program settings, preferences and presets. This is complemented on pages 132-136 with equally important pointers on workflow and image saving options which users should know about before they start down the path of processing large numbers of images.

There is an excellent in-depth discussion of the Adjustment Brush and the use of the Graduated Filter on pages 150-164, showing how to convert a blah image into a very interesting one. It shows intelligent and time-efficient use of these features to do localized image edits that make all the difference in the world to the impact of the final image.

Turning to Chapter Five, having now explained what the tools are and how to use them, this is where the authors become truly "hands-on" guiding readers step by step through the editing of a series of images, each of which presents a different, but frequently encountered set of issues needing their own editing strategies. Key examples include how to "tame" images with excessive dynamic range (too bright and too dark in the same photo), and how to enhance images that are dull and flat. The book takes us through how to evaluate what the images need, and then how to do the needful. In over 70 pages, there is a lot of "meat" in this chapter. Between a reading of chapters 4 and 5, readers will develop a pretty clear idea of how to approach an image editing workflow in terms of "what to do when" - an issue which perplexes just about every newcomer to digital image processing - and more experienced users can often be reminded a thing or two about workflow logic as well.

Again, space prevents me from describing all the content in this chapter, but I must mention a couple of topics - they are significantly enhanced features, and one of which is "all the rage" in imaging circles these days. Page 227 shows how ACR can handle keystoning, a very common technical problem encountered photographing buildings and monuments which automatically used to send us to Photoshop, but perhaps now less frequently. Pages 251-159 present what Jeff calls "poor man's HDR" (high dynamic range), I guess because he shows us here how we can use a combination of Bridge, ACR and Photoshop (all bundled in the same package) to expand the dynamic range included in a photograph without buying other applications. It's a good exposition which photographers should digest BEFORE even making the images which will enter the process.

Chapters 6 onward are not ACR-specific, but they move into a lot of depth on workflow tools and related applications relevant to the use of ACR. For example the multiple uses of Adobe Bridge described here may surprise many people - such as how to produce very sharp-looking photographic web galleries, much like those produced from Lightroom. The book concludes with a rich compendium of information on automated file handling procedures, metadata, tethered shooting, process automation and much more.

This is all truly valuable, well-presented content. Very highly recommended.

Outstanding manual for Camera Raw 6/Lightroom 3

As a user of Lightroom 3, not Creative Suite, I took a chance that this book would provide some good details on Lightroom. It exceeds my expectations by a wide margin. Probably 95% of this book is directly applicable to Lightroom; the only significant deviations are in the file management when Camera Raw is under control of Bridge or Photoshop whereas in Lightroom some of the file management features don't exist, or are covered in the Import function. A few other minor differences don't detract at all from the applicability of this book to Lightroom 3.

The organization, clarity of writing, and the full round trip from big-picture overview of concepts to the details of *how* to do operations are just magnificently done. While this is a book on specifically Camera Raw 6, the first couple of chapters are broad applicability to any digital photographer who wants to understand where the data in a digital image comes from (it's not very intuitive), how it is processed within the camera (surprisingly complex), and what needs to be processed externally and how the data and metadata in the image affects all steps of image processing. The tradeoffs of RAW vs. processed/compressed images (JPEG) are well addressed in a reasonably unbiased fashion.

I have about half a dozen books on various topics related to Lightroom, color, workflow, and so on, and Real World Camera Raw (RWCR) far outshines all of them in both breadth and depth of useful, practical techniques. Every feature of Camera Raw is covered, not as a checklist but with very clear emphasis on the things that are most important and always within the context of why and what is going on with the data. Short passing mentions of less important or duplicated functions don't clutter the book and keep the reader focused on the key concepts and techniques. The goal of the book is to equip the reader with the conceptual framework, the understanding of the important questions and tradeoffs, all the way down to the specific techniques, that make for the best possible image file to feed into the next stage of processing. In the case of a Lightroom user like myself, that "final stage" is actually the end result -- the printed, displayed, or shared image, so to a large extent RWCR is an absolutely outstanding "Missing Lightroom Manual", far and away the best I've seen.

I particularly enjoyed the clarity of discussion of how the basic tone controls impact the available data in the image, and the resulting observation that photos should be just slightly overexposed to maximize the information that can be produced. The discussions of sharpening and noise reduction are also very well done, and these features in Lightroom 3 (or, Camera Raw 6) are particularly well evolved.

After reading RWCR you will have a firm grasp of how to approach optimizing the quality of each image, whether you are a beginning or advanced Lightroom 3 or Camera Raw 6 user. Hats off to the authors for an outstanding work with immediately useful information on almost every page.

This book is for professional photographers only - not for an enthusiast

I am an digital photography enthusiast. I was looking for a detailed step by step digital editing manual using Photoshop CS5 and its Camera Raw CS5 software. I own relatively old Canon EOS 20D with 8.3 MGPX SLR camera. All my shootings are done in strictly Raw format and all my raw images are in Canon CR2 extension file type. There is no question about some benefits of this book for actually any type of photographers, however, unless you are a professional photographer and this is how you make your living but not a hobbyist like me, you are going to be somehow disappointed with the content of the book information. I am very much analytical person and my profession is in the computer programming field so I have developed this ability to learn from a book complex and highly analytical information and processes. The author of this book mostly focuses on how to organize and efficiently process your images using Camera Raw and Bridge CS5 using the concept of the Workflow without actually spending too much time on the image editing itself using the Camera Raw as a step by step manual. He only dedicated 2 chapters for using Camera Raw software and he actually did not show you and explain as if your image had that problem, you would have to use that tool to do that type of an adjustment and why. He just tells you that Jeff made highlights warmer and shadows cooler, or sometimes he would say you might have to do either Parametric or Point adjustments, or use Split Toning and so on showing some sample images that you can download but far not all of them. He did not connect the image particular problems with Camera Raw very large array of adjustments to correct them. Despite the fact he follows you with the usage of different tools and shows you how to use them but unfortunately, you can't pinpoint the specific principles for doing right editing adjustment for specific image problems. The most frustration I've got when the author shows some dialog boxes with the properties, however, he fails to tell you where to find these dialog boxes and you have to search around in your software page interface for the place where you can click some menus or preferences and might find this optional dialog boxes. All in all, this book is mostly dedicated to professional photographers for planning, strategies, organizing and filtering images, metadata of images, workflow and as how to use Adobe Bridge CS5 to make it all easy.
If you really want to understand the Camera Raw image editing software, I think you should try to find a book that targets a hobbyist in digital photography who is looking to find technique for creating his images as close as possible to professional ones as we do not deal with thousands of images on a weekly basis and really do not need all these organizing and special strategic workflow skills to save some time.

Painful, but compelling.

I finished this book two days ago and have been a little perplexed on how to write the review. "Shut Up" doesn't have the sort of quirky or witty dialogue I usually enjoy, the world is ours and it's really not at all about the world, there weren't characters I adored or would gush over, and the happy ending is well... more hope for happy than happy.

Despite everything it didn't have that I usually find appealing in books, what "Shut Up" did have was honesty and power. Mary, the main character, is one whom I found I could relate and empathize with on a deep level. Her pain, her helplessness and confusion touched me, drew me in, nearly compelled me to keep reading, praying that somehow, there would be light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping with her, crashing with her, her pain nearly bringing me to tears--I was unable to put this book down.

Tibbet's characters are real people, and perhaps that's what is so compelling about this book. We all know people like Mary's mother, father, brother, and sisters. It makes them all very accessible, and also is probably part of what makes you feel so much like you could be reading your own story.

If you've ever felt like you weren't good enough, you couldn't do anything right, have been belittled or bullied (whether by family or "friends"), "Shut Up" is a must read. The story Mary and Paul tell is painful, real, but there is also hope. It finishes with the reminder that childhood is not forever, that people grow up and move on--even our tormentors--and that we are not alone. Sooner or later, you'll find someone who will stand up for you, who will notice you, and who will assure you that you are valuable. And that hope isn't shoved in the reader's face like a life lesson or a great theme--it is integrated in the same way the story is told--realistically.

Five stars for a compelling, honest look inside the mind and heart of a child who is bullied, and five stars for the beautiful conclusion of hope.

Well...let me start of by saying how much I love the cover and title of this book!

When I received SHUT UP in the mail I was a little distraught at how small it was. It only has 108 pages, and normally I don't even bother with books this short. I can read a 400 page novel in about 3 & 1/2 hours, so I tend to buy longer novels or I feel like I'm wasting my time and money. I mean how much can an Author really tell me in 108 pages?? The answer in all honesty is usually NOT MUCH!

BUT Anne Tibbets packs so much raw emotion and reality into 108 short pages that I honestly felt like I came away with just as much information as if it had been 200 pages longer.

I am a little sad that I could relate so easily to the characters and their struggles... I could feel the pain that 12 year old Mary went through on a daily basis, how she felt invisible some times, but mostly wished she could be invisible just to avoid making mistakes or calling attention to her own awkwardness. My heart raced every time she was running away or every time she clutched a bottle of pills in her hand, just ready for it all to end. I wonder how many children/teens feel this way on a daily basis and how many are dealing with some sort of depression or feelings of worthlessness. The reality of this book saddens and terrifies me, since I have five children of my own.

On some level I could relate to the Mary's mom in the book...her actions, while inexcusable, seemed to stem from so much stress and helplessness, that by the end of the book I felt a *little* sorry for her....but not too much. Besides wanting to slap some sense into her or maybe take a hanger to her (let her have a taste of her own medicine) I just wanted to shake her until she stopped treating Mary like some unwanted step child. I can relate to her stress and feeling helpless, but not so much to her lashing out at her other children. Unfortunately, I'm sure many children/teens *CAN* relate to this scenario on some level. If not the physical, then definitely the mental abuse.

Words harshly spoken can have such devastating affects on the life of a child/teen. This book serves, in my opinion, serves as a reminder that no one can know how much a person has endured, how much a person has been pushed, and how much more a person can take. I pray to God that my children never feel the way Mary and Paul felt in this book... I hope that they always know how beautiful, smart, and wanted they are. ALL children should be able to feel that way, ALL children should be made to feel heard!

Powerfully Maddening!

Shut Up made me sad and angry all at once. Mary is but still a child who still plays with Barbie Dolls for Pete's sakes and her older sister is no more than a bully! I can't understand why the parents bowed down and let Gwen run amok and carry on in their home like she did. It was appaling and sickening.

I know to a certain degree they just wanted to pacify Gwen because the more you'd argue with her the longer and louder she'd get. But the way I look at it is Gwen made her own bed and even once they tried to overlook that she had gotten pregnant and wanted to marry the creep father of the child, and extend an olive branch of help she was the most ungratefullest person in the world! You can only help somebody so much. They have got to do something for themself and let me tell you what...my folks would never have tolerated this behavior from me or my sibs. Pregnant or not had I hollered at them either I'd be picking my teeth up off the ground or sitting in the front yard with my suitcases!

Gwen was just a very negative person and she wanted everybody around her to be just as miserable as she was. I wanted to reach out to Mary and hug her and let her know I was there and that she wasn't alone even though I knew she was just a character in a book she felt so freaking real to me!

The title of the book is Shut Up only it seems weird because Mary never really "said" anything! Bless her heart she just kept taking the abuse, and yes that is what it was, time and time again. The words of truth and pain were right there on the tip of her tongue so many times but she could never confide in anybody and after a while she began to blame herself and wonder why she could never do anything right.

About the Author

F. Chris Garcia is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of New Mexico.  He is the author/editor of several books and many articles and chapters in the areas of Hispanic politics, public opinion and political socialization, campaigns and elections and New Mexico government. Professor Garcia has taught classes in these areas for over 35 years. Included among these were newly instituted courses in Chicano Politics and the Politics of Ethnic Groups in the early 1970s.  He has served as an officer of several professional organizations as well as serving as a college Dean, Academic Vice President, Provost and President at the University of New Mexico. During this period Dr. Garcia has provided extensive commentary and analysis of campaigns and elections for local, national and international media. He is the recipient of many honors and awards including the APSA Award for Distinguished Service, the NM Governor’s Distinguished Public Service Award and the UNM Regents Meritorious Service Medal.

Gabriel Sanchez is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of New Mexico. His fields of interest are Racial and Ethnic politics with a specific focus on Latino Political Behavior. Professor Sanchez has articles published in Political Research Quarterly and American Politics Research. He teaches classes in the areas of racial and ethnic politics, Hispanic politics, and Public Opinion and Electoral Behavior.  Professor Sanchez is also the Recruitment Coordinator for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Research Center for Health Policy at the University of New Mexico.

An interesting happiness textbook, not so much of a novel

Since I really enjoy reading books about happiness, I was excited to find this slim volume that purports to be a novel. Ostensibly, this is a story about a man vacationing in Bali, but it is really a series of conversations between a typical Westerner and a sage, enlightened master. The master asks probing questions, tells parable-like stories, and even assigns homework. He also references pop culture and modern scientific studies in order to get his message across.

I hugely enjoyed Master Samtyang's teachings and his dry, somewhat bizarre wit. The setting of the beaches and jungles of Bali is very appealing.

Julian, as the story's protagonist, is pretty much a shell, a reasonable Everyman stand in for ourselves. There is no plot or action to the book, aside from the important questions posed between master and student. Don't pick this book up looking for an absorbing tale. That's just not what this book is. It is clearly a self help book with a thin veneer of "novel" as the dressing.

If you've read and enjoyed The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, you will be familiar with this genre. This has even less plot, and is a shorter book in any case. I do appreciate books along these lines - books like 2150 AD, Illusions, Celestine Prophecy, Stranger in a Strange Land, Peaceful Warrior - and dervived a lot of learning from The Man Who Wanted To Be Happy.

In fact, I even read the book a second time, with highlighter pen at hand to better mark the learnings lessons and insights within. I've enjoyed noting a section and then going for a run to meditate on how to apply the concepts to my own life. What does MY happiest life look like? What obstacles do I believe are in my way? How do my choices limit my perspective?

Lastly, I found the penultimate chapter about the lessons of money very enlightening. I've always felt it to be true that money has little to do with life satisfaction or happiness, but I didn't notice my condescending attitude towards those who pursue ambition and material goods. This book's lessons showed me how my "noble" perceptions on frugality kept me just as chained by money as the next person. This is something to meditate on for my next run, in any case!

Recommended to people who like self-help books with a little bit of storyline thrown in for cohesion. Not recommended at all as a straight novel.

a self help class wrapped in a novella - Perfect for 2013

With all the negativity flowing around us the last 6 years this book was a timely and enjoyable surprise. I quick read at 150 short pages there isn't alot of depth but in this hectic world it gives you more than enough to think and act on.

The message: you are in control of you. Only you have the power to allow yourself to be happy. Rid yourself of the Debbie Downers, rid your self of the bigots, lots of money is not a requirement for happiness. Find out what makes you happy and live it.

I would have rated it 4 stars as self help book and 4 stars as a novel but the combination made it 5 stars for me.

With my father dying in December, my 33 year career ending last week, 6 job changes in 3 years this was a perfectly timed book for me.

Original and unoriginal at the same time

The author's bio at the end of the book says, "His books are based on the principles of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)." I thought that was a strange claim to make for a book, because NLP can be a form of hypnosis, so I first read that statement that there are bits of subliminal hypnosis encoded in this book that will make you do the author's will.

Luckily, though, what the statement in the bio means is that this book is a rehash of a lot of stuff that other NLP experts have talked about. There obviously wasn't enough NLP science in this book to influence me that much.

But the reason I picked this book is that I'm fascinated with happiness, and the pursuit of happiness, and I was hoping that this book would teach me something. The whole point of this book (sorry for the spoiler) is that you will be happy if you keep coming up with new challenges and keep accomplishing them, and if you feel in control of your destiny while you're doing it.

But that's just the last few chapters. Most of the book is about how you create your own destiny by your outlook on life. It sounds like The Secret, but it's a lot more like Anthony Robbins. In fact, I've already read most of the "profound wisdom" and examples that were in this book, in Robbins' books before.

The story of the book is pretty interesting. It's about a high school teacher who spends a month vacation every summer in Bali, who decides to visit a guru every day for a week. The narrative of the story was pretty interesting.

So, if you want to read every text available about happiness, or if you need a quick, short motivational book, then definitely read this. But you won't be missing out on too much if you pass on this book.

-The main character is way too enamored with the guru, for only having met him a couple days ago
-How does a high school teacher get enough money to take a month long vacation to Bali every year?
-How much of the facts in this book are real facts, versus just being regurgitated from other new age or self help books? I could not tell
-When the main character realizes cool stuff, he realizes that everyone else just isn't as enlightened as he is. I took it as condescension
-Even though the story is interesting, I couldn't ever get lost in it. The writing was so jarring, that I kept remembering that this is a story that is trying to teach me a lesson.
-It makes it seem like if you change your job, you'll find happiness

Thoughtfully written.

This book is a wonderful tool for helping you sort out your own personal values. Marc articulates himself well and has put together a powerful resource with user friendly processes that will take you deeper into figuring out what you are about and what is important to you in this life. What I love most about this book is that the author has personally walked through all of it and used these steps to identify his own core values, with success.

I highly recommend it and believe all the good stuff packed inside this little book will benefit you greatly. Enjoy!

Focused

This is a well written and focused book by a gifted writer. The book stays on subject and is clear with its objectives. If you are someone who has little or no experience with keeping a journal, writing your story or taking inventories of your life, this is a good book to start with.
For those of us that have gone through these and other similar exercises, much of Marc's book may be repetitive of what you've done before. However, with that said I am glad I have the book as reference material to review Marc's insights on this very important subject.

Cookie-Cuttering Organizational Culture into a One-Size-Fits-All Pyramid of Buzz-Word Ubiquity.

• Executive Summary
This is a review of Change the Culture, Change the Game: The Breakthrough Strategy for Energizing Your Organization and Creating Accountability for Results, by Roger Connors and Tom Smith. The target audience of the book is business professionals interested in developing a culture of accountability within an organization. In my opinion the strengths of this book are few, though conceptually the authors propose a foundational, though rudimentary, structure describing how one might go about inciting cultural change. That said, there are too many weaknesses to justify suffering through the long winded “real-life” examples that compose the bulk of most chapters; specifically the outdated concepts that are the core of the material presented, the oversimplification of the information’s utility as applicable to all business cultures, and the incessant lists, methods and systems the authors advertise as essential to the process of instilling a culture of accountability. There are so many better choices in this field of study that I cannot comfortably recommend the book; not even as foundational reference material.

• Who is the book written for?

The book is written in such a way that makes me suspect that the authors were providing high level leaders something to distribute among their subordinate managers as required reading when approaching the topic of change management through cultural development. Therefore, I was not surprised at the many customer reviews stating that they were, in fact, encouraged by a manager or boss to give it a read and explain the large brush strokes to their direct reports and teams. Of course, the publishing company, hoping to sell a copy to every business person on the planet, touts it as useful material to the everyman business person who desires to instill the virtue of accountability in the souls of their organizations.

• Specific Strengths of the Book

I believe that Change the Culture, Change the Game would be best suited as an introductory read for managers within an organization that has become so stagnant in their culture that they require immediate and drastic alterations to abate disaster. It presents some basic concepts and fills in the blanks with descriptive, though, as previously stated, long winded, allegory that fail to construct a complete plan of action. This being the case, one would expect that it might spark an interest in some of its audience and encourage them to look deeper into the topics presented, thereby becoming the initial stepping stone that might provide a manager the tools necessary to understand and effect real change in an organization’s culture.

• Specific Weaknesses of the Book

The material presented is dated, and as far from the forefront in the field of organizational behavior as VHS tape is to media delivery methodology. I was extremely disappointed to find that the 2012 edition didn’t add fundamentally to the original printing of the book in 2001, even though so much progress has been made in this field in the past decade. I very much dislike books that present themselves as ‘the’ authority on a topic, promising innovative techniques and cutting edge strategic insights, but deliver nothing more than a regurgitation of outmoded information. I found the recommendations of the authors to be elementary, effectively cookie-cuttering something as complex and unique as an organization’s corporate culture into a one-size-fits-all pyramid of buzz-word ubiquity.

• What Other Reviewers Have Said for and Against the Book and Your Reply

As one would expect, the majority of reviews on Amazon.com are generally positive, some of which appear to be contrived by those who stood to benefit from book sales. However, I did notice that in many of the positive reviews, my sentiments were echoed in part or in their entirety, but for whatever reason, the reviewer still gave the book the coveted 5 star rating. The 1 star ratings seemed more sincere and in line with my own experience. The endorsements pages within the book itself ~ 4 pages of praise from renowned business leaders and industry heavy hitters comprise the first 4 pages of the text~ are all resoundingly positive and recommend it highly as a must read. Then again the publisher wouldn’t have been doing a very good job of marketing the product had they used anything but the shiny polished ones, therefore I discount them wholeheartedly. And finally, the initial 2001 edition received recognition as both a New York Times and Wall Street Journal Best Seller. Frankly, way back then, I might have personally helped them achieve that standing.

• Recommendations
Though I would not recommend this particular book, I feel that this is a continuously evolving and exciting field of study with value and practical application to every organization, large and small. Therefore, I might suggest that people start where I did in my journey of behavioral discovery, and read anything written by John Kotter; starting with the revamped edition of Leading Change, while being sure not to miss The Heart of Change: Real-Life Stories of How People Change Their Organizations, or Our Iceberg Is Melting: Changing and Succeeding under Any Conditions all of which available on Amazon.com. Save a tree and buy them used.

Leverage your results - as a leader of your team

Truth is simple and we have heard it more than once, not what is counts, what it looks like counts. And culture is part of look and feel inside and out. Even more, it duplicates itself, it spreads and grows.

As any growing force, culture needs guidance. Change the culture, change the game gives valuable insights how to direct the culture in an organisation, how to mobilize your people for the good. It's a must hear (and read) when you lead a team or organisation and it challenges you to proceed.

Great work, highly recommended for leaders in any field. Give your team the force of a direction and they'll love it.
