The material presented in this book is a result of my work in the field of call center management during the period 1999-2002. The focus is on the perfor­ mance analysis and optimization of inbound call centers. Since call arrivals and call-handling times are often random in inbound call centers, this thesis concentrates on the performance analysis and optimization using queueing models. This book describes mathematical methods and algorithms to relate the number of agents and telephone trunks of a given call center configuration to technical as well as economic performance measures. This book has been accepted as a PhD thesis in Business Administration at the Technical University of Clausthal, Germany. I am indebted to many people for their support during the process of writing this thesis. First of all, I would like to thank my advisor, Prof. Dr. Stefan Helber, for motivating my research to call center related problems. He gently pushed me in fruitful directions and encouraged me to strike a balance between mathematical results and economic implications. To reach the desired taxation level in Pakistan, an in-depth policy reforms programme needs to be formulated by policymakers. Jorge Martinez-Vazquez, Regents Professor, Economics/Director, International Center for Public Policy, Andrew Young School, Georgia State University, USA

J. Martinez-Vazquez is Regents Professor of Economics and Director of the International Center for Public Policy, Andrew Young School, Georgia State University, USA. He has published over 20 books and numerous articles in academic journals, such as Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Public Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics. He serves on several editorial boards and has directed multiple fiscal reform projects, having worked in over 70 countries. He has consulted with the World Bank, the IMF, the ADB, the UNDP, the IADB, and numerous country governments. He was inducted into the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 1997, and in 2006 he was made an Honorary Professor of China Public Finance and Public Policy Academy, Beijing. In 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Vigo in Spain, and in 2012 he delivered the Raja Chelliah lecture at NIPFP in New Delhi.

Musharraf Rasool Cyan is Assistant Research Professor at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, USA. He holds a Masteras degree in Development Management from the University College, London, and a PhD in Economics from Georgia State University, USA. Cyan holds a fifteen-year professional record in the areas of tax reform, fiscal decentralization, public sector expenditure, development planning and management. He has worked for the Asian Development Bank in Pakistan (2001a2005), undertaking design of intergovernmental fiscal transfer systems at the sub-national level. He possesses a rich experience of development policy and management, and has consulted for international development organizations including the World Bank, UNDP, SADC, GIZ, DFID, and ADB. In Pakistan, he has worked as a local administrator and as Chief Economist in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has also worked on public sector reform and policy in Afghanistan, Egypt, Nepal, Nigeria, Macedonia, and Rwanda.

Travel Guide for Seekers of ancient Goddess sites

Sacred Places of Goddess by Karen Tate

This book is not the usual popular archaeology offering on the subject. It is a combination of that and a travel guide as well---so you not only learn the historic and mythological background on the various ancient sites, but are supplied with current information on how to get there. The coverage is impressive. Karen even briefly mentions the ruined shrine of Astarte at Aphaca in Lebanon which is the ancient source of the pre-Christian (Canaanite) Holy Grail legend according to anthropologist Jesse Weston (From Ritual to Romance). This beautiful natural site, where hundreds of Goddess worshipers were massacred by emperor Constantine's soldiers in the 4th century, is still venerated by local Pagans but has been almost completely forgotten by the Neo-Pagans of America and Europe.

Hopefully Karen's book will go through several updates as time goes by and thus it will continue to be carried along on sacred grad tours for years to come.

This is an amazing book!! The author has done a wonderful job, the book is extremely well organized, structured and laid out. Her writing style is straight forward and I felt as if she was there talking just to me. I especially liked the infomation in the indroduction on safety tips.

This is more than a guide book that puts the foucus on the spirtuality of each site, but one that provides scholarly infomation and history of the sites as well.

Included as well are Gaia Alerts, which put the focus on the environment and Goddess Foucus side panels, which provide even more information about certain sites.

Her vivid description and information on the birthplace of Aphrodite was fascinating and totally new to me even though I have been studying and practising Goddess spirituality for 16 yrs.

I am ready to begin a jouney to visit Goddess with this book as my guide.

Following In the Footprints of Others

This was a very quick and easy read. If you live in NY or any of the New England states, and/or have an interest in Bigfoot/Sasquatch, you'll likely want this on your shelf.

Many of the "sightings" detailed here you will have read about elsewhere, particularly if you are a Bigfoot fan/believer. But it's very nice in this case to have them all listed out in chronological order at the back of the book.

All in all, a solid addition to the Bigfoot hunter's bookshelf.

Pretty good update of Monsters of the Northwoods

This book, clocking in at just over 145 pages, is a pretty worthy successor and update to an earlier book both authors co-wrote with Bill Brann and Bruce Hallenbeck in 1992. It covers sightings and reports in the Empire State, but also covers reports in New England States (Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and even all the way to Maine). The brother authors do look at the different theories as to the possible existence of the Sasquatch, even delving into alternate explanations (though they are quick to point out they do not necessarily believe those explanations). I would give this one 4 out of 5 stars, but it is still not quite as good as MOTN.

Bigfoot Encounters in New York AND New England

I purchased Bigfoot Encounters in New York from Hancock Bigfoot Encounters covers Bigfoot reports, often published in the local media, from New York State AND New England. The title is a little misleading in that respect. The format of the book is chronological and often note-like. The other thing I did not like about this book was I believe that it is not as inclusive in regards to Bigfoot reports and encounters in New York State as it claims. The author's analysis of the reports was more or less what one would have expected if they had read more than a few of the more factual and rigorous Bigfoot (non-BFRO member) books. What I did like were the stories of Bigfoot encounters in the Pre and Revolutionary War period in New York State. The reports of Bigfoot sightings and reports in New England were also interesting.

I believe this book can be easily updated and expanded if the authors wish to do so. Three stars.

Dated text, weak on technical details

I bought this thinking since it was a 2008 edition it would be up-to-date on the latest materials and techniques. Not. This is essentially the year 2000 edition and does not address the composite bentonite-hdpe systems that are common today. I was also looking for some technical details on how a bentonite system should work but only a few overview-type comments were in the text.

Most of the drawings are clear and useful, but the black and white photos are small and sometimes hard to discern what is being depicted.

All in all, this book is a useful resource but not worth the high price being charged.

EDIT: On Page 2.58, author states: "Clay swells 10-15 percent of its dry volume under maximum wetting." This is incorrect, should be 10-15 TIMES, not percent. At 10-15 percent, bentonite would not work.

Excellent, practical reference

I used this reference to help create specifications and Scope of Work for commercial restoration projects and our warranties. Unlike the information typically provided by the material manufacturers the guidelines offered by the author are quite practical. His experience as a contractor is evident and it makes this book more useful than more academic texts. I also refer to it as I inform customers and employees on matters relevant to their interests and tasks. I recommend it to building owners, property managers, and particularly building restoration contractors like me.

This book has three parts. In the first two, basic principles in the theory and practice of book design are discussed. The third part then shows how the ideas of the first and second parts have been applied in particular examples. 'Book design as a school of thought' was originally delivered (in German) as a lecture and published as a pamphlet, in 1991. This is its first publication in English. 'Designing books' was published as a separate booklet by Agfa (Wilmington, Mass.) in 1989, in German. Translation into several other languages followed, including an English edition (1990): all long out of print. The version published here has been revised and considerably augmented with new illustrations. The third part, 'Books designed by Jost Hochuli', is completely new. Here Robin Kinross comments on 27 of Hochuli's works. Both authors are internationally known, Kinross more as critic and historian, Hochuli above all as a practitioner. In this book they offer a serious introduction to book design, free of ideological dogma. Short and concise, it contains a rich, painstakingly selected fund of illustrations.

Dogma/No Dogma, is still Dogma (but this is post post modernisn, so who cares?)

Regardless of what the authors write about, whether symmetrical or asymmetrical design should be used and when, it is, in my opinion, complete and with illustrations. This book was, I believe, to give courage and to inspire the book designer, to introduce a new idea (that the spine is the central axis and not the page itself) and to ask the reader(s) to contemplate. I do find the cover lovely as both symmetry and asymmetry is used to show that both work together and in contrast.

A Picturebook of Typography / Design

As indicated by the review above, the book is divided up into three sections that tackle the history, methods, and styles of book design. The title, "Designing Books," may sound like a technical reference, but it's not. The book should have been named "Book Designs," for it is more a picturebook of illustrations and typography from books of poetry, novels, brochures, art books, and other publications.
The author does cover Swiss grid design, proportions of text areas and margins, and the differences between asymmetrical and symmetrical design theories. It is perhaps this historical reference of asymmetrical and symmetrical styles that make this book worth having. It presents intelligent comparisons of both theories, the history behind each movement, and the cultural stereotypes attached to each. Case in point, Jan Tschichold's groundbreaking work in asymmetrical design / book layout, before totally reversing course and becoming one of the great symmetrical designers in his later years.
The author intelligently illustrates the positive and negative aspects of both design theories, without leaning towards either as a preference. The author finds beauty and intrigue in both styles.
To clarify however, the "asymmetrical" theories illustrated here are based on 1960s Swiss/German grid layouts using lots of Univers and white space. This is not a collection of cutting-edge typography or radical design work. The illustrated examples are clean, modest and classic.
A good starting point for those who need a clear entry point into this field, but by no means a reference manual for the experienced.
